Gearbox's Borderlands 4 officially launches on September 12, but it's already available for PC--and on Steam, it's putting up big numbers.
Steam's own public stats show that Borderlands 4 is Steam's top-selling title globally and in the US. It has exceeded 175,000 concurrent players to rank as Steam's No. 4 most-played game today.
That's more concurrent players than any previous Borderlands game ever achieved. Borderlands 2, which is the best-selling entry in the series , reached a record of 124,678 peak concurrent players and was the record-setter for peak concurrent players in the Borderlands franchise until today. Borderlands 3, meanwhile, topped out at 93,820 peak concurrent players . That game, however, was exclusive to the Epic Games Store at launch.
Borderlands 4 is also available on PC via the Epic Games Store , so the results on Steam only account for a portion of the game's total audience on PC. The looter-shooter is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S later today, with a Switch 2 edition arriving in early October.
GameSpot's Borderlands 4 review scored the game a 7/10. Reviewer Jordan Ramee wrote, "It's the most mechanically sound Borderlands game to date, and the various Vault Hunters each present an entertaining opportunity to tackle the game in a different way."
