How To Build a Blue/Red Deck for Edge of Eternities Limited Formats

How To Build a Blue/Red Deck for Edge of Eternities Limited Formats originally appeared on GameDaily .

In our Edge of Eternities pre-release deckbuilding guide , we covered each two-color combination's archetype. In this guide, I'll go more in-depth on how to build a blue/red deck for limited in Edge of Eternities .

Blue/Red - Artifact Aggro

Artifact Aggro is the archetype of the blue/red color combination in Edge of Eternities. In this set, players deckbuilding a blue/red deck will want to include as many artifacts as they can. This can either be artifact creatures, artifacts like the newly introduced spaceships, or cards that make you lander tokens. Edge of Eternities has many good artifacts and artifact creatures in blue and in red. As such, blue/red is a really strong two-color combination in this set with many cards synergizing with the archetype's gameplan.

Signpost Uncommon

Mm'menon, Uthros ExileMythicSpoiler // Wizards of the Coast

Mm'menon, Uthros Exile is the signpost uncommon for blue/red in Edge of Eternities. This uncommon legendary creature rewards you whenever an artifact you control ETBs by making one of your creatures bigger. Also, it has good stats for its cost, and it also has built in evasion with flying. This makes Mm'menon itself a great target for its own ability. Additionally, it's also important to remember that this ability triggers whenever any artifact you control ETBs. This includes tokens like the lander tokens introduced in this set. This makes it okay to include non-artifact creatures in your deck if it can make you lander tokens.

Best Cards for Blue/Red in Edge of Eternities

In line with blue/red's archetype in Edge of Eternities, many of the cards I'll suggest here are artifacts. There are many strong artifacts or artifact synergy cards you can include in blue/red decks in this set. The ones I'll suggest below are those I think have the strongest synergy. Additionally, because blue/red is supposed to be an aggressive archetype here, I'll mostly suggest cards with low CMCs. I'll mostly suggest common and uncommon cards that players have a higher chance of pulling in limited. However, I'll include higher rarity cards to consider including if you're lucky enough to pull them.

Best Creatures to Include in Blue/Red

Like I mentioned before, this set has many good creatures that synergize with blue/red's archetype, even at lower rarities. First, there's Red Tiger Mechan, a common artifact creature with good stats, a cheap warp cost, and haste. This card synergizes perfectly with blue/red's archetype in this set of playing artifacts and attacking aggressively. Next, we have Kavaron Turbodrone, another artifact creature that buffs another creature you control and gives it haste. This synergizes well with warp creatures by letting you attack with them on the turn you play them. Finally, we have Kavaron Harrier, an uncommon artifact creature with an attack trigger that helps you grow your artifact army.

Best Non-Creature Spells to Include in Blue/Red

Cryogen RelicMythicSpoiler // Wizards of the Coast

Divert DisasterMythicSpoiler // Wizards of the Coast

Systems OverrideMythicSpoiler // Wizards of the Coast

The first non-creature spell that I think are must haves when building blue/red in limited is Cryogen Relic. This low-cost artifact draws you a card when it enters and leaves. Additionally, its ability lets you sacrifice it and put a stun counter on a tapped creature to delay your opponents. Next, we have Divert Disaster which lets you counter any spell unless its controller pays two colorless mana. Not only is this counterspell cheap, but you also get rewarded even if an opponent pays. The lander token you get if they pay can help trigger Mm'menon and help fix your mana. Finally, Systems Override lets you steal one of your opponent's artifacts or creatures for a turn to use against them.

Best Higher Rarity Cards to Include in Blue/Red

If you're lucky enough to pull any of the following higher rarity cards, consider including them in your blue/red deck.

Pinnacle EmissaryMythicSpoiler // Wizards of the Coast

Rust HarvesterMythicSpoiler // Wizards of the Coast

Synthesizer LabshipMythicSpoiler // Wizards of the Coast

First up is Pinnacle Emissary which is the best high rarity card you can include in blue/red decks. This rare card an artifact creature that makes you more artifact creatures whenever you cast an artifact spell. Additionally, you can use its warp ability to make many flying drones earlier or to trigger Void abilities. Then afterwards, you can cast it for its full cost from exile at a later turn.

Next, Rust Harvester is a cheap artifact creature with menace and a powerful activated ability. You can use it to exile your artifacts that were removed by your opponents to make it stronger. Also, it's activated ability then lets this creature deal damage to any target based on its power. This means that as this card grows stronger, the more damage it deals with its activated ability.

Finally, Synthesizer Labship is another strong artifact that only costs a single blue mana. Its first station ability can be activated for cheap, requiring only two charge counters. Afterwards, it can turn any artifact you control into a flying artifact creature with base power and toughness 2/2. This is strong in blue/red decks because you can turn your non-creature artifacts into beaters to aid your offense. You can also use this on another artifact creature you control that has +1/+1 counters to give it evasion.

This wraps up this guide for how to build a blue/red deck for Edge of Eternities limited formats. If you like artifacts and enjoy playing aggressively, then blue/red might just be the color combination for you.
