A Loot-Crazed Adventure Begins
Solo developer Dan Makes Video Games , in partnership with indie.io , has launched Don't Die, Collect Loot into Steam Early Access. The game, priced at $9.99 USD with a 20% launch discount, blends scrolling arcade gameplay with bullet-hell chaos and an over-the-top loot system where the ultimate goal is to become hilariously overpowered.
Despite its tongue-in-cheek title, death is far from the end. Players will explore procedurally generated memoriesof a frozen world after a mysterious catastrophe, battling endless waves of enemies that drop cartloads of loot. Every run pushes players to sift through gear, unlock lore fragments, and grow stronger with each attempt.
Classes, Builds, and Mayhem
At launch, players can choose from three hero classes:
-
Adventurer– brute force combat with blades and blunt weapons.
-
Arcanist– spell-slinging destruction with arcane magic.
-
Beastmaster– summoning minions to overwhelm enemies.
Each class features dozens of skills, and when combined with thousands of loot variations and modifiers, players can create endless builds. Breaking the game's mechanics isn't just allowed—it's encouraged.
Two additional classes, including rogue and archer archetypes, are planned for Early Access, along with new biomes, bosses, and an "uber" endgame encounter.
Built With the Community
While Don't Die, Collect Loot is the vision of one developer, Dan Marchand, Early Access ensures that the community plays a vital role in shaping its balance. With hundreds of skills, thousands of item properties, and deep crafting options, feedback will be critical to keeping the chaos fun, fair, and rewarding.
Dan describes the design as "just as fun to play within the rules as it is to bend and break them."
