'The Elder Scrolls 6' Developer Provides Huge Official Updates After Xbox Layoffs
Last week, Xbox initiated mass layoffs that would begin to eliminate more than 1600 positions from its video game developers, including some that were a part of Bethesda Game Studios and The Elder Scrolls 6 development team. Now, the studio has released a lengthy statement, indicating some new projects and a small update on the progress of The Elder Scrolls 6.
Posted to X and other social media platforms by the official Bethesda Game Studios accounts, the company shared its plans for the immediate future for the company and its beloved series.
Firstly, Starfield will continue to get updates, according to the post. "As we enter Year three, we'll continue expanding the Settled Systems with new stories, targeted gameplay improvements, and additional updates, while preparing for the launch of new Starborn content next year."
Bethesda also shared a small update on its creator program, revealing that fan creations have made more than $10 million in royalties.
In what is probably the biggest update, Bethesda has confirmed remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are in active development, and that pre-production has begun on Fallout 5 .
Fallout 4 , in particular, has seen a rise in player count since the release of the hit Fallout TV show on Prime, with season three also in production. No release dates or windows were revealed for any of these projects.
Bethesda additionally confirmed it is teaming up with long-time development partner Obsidian Entertainment on another project. Obsidian previously developed Fallout: New Vegas back in 2010.
The Elder Scrolls 6 was brought up in the announcement, and it has been confirmed that both The Elder Scrolls 6 and Fallout 5 will be developed using Creation Engine 3.
Regarding the long wait for The Elder Scrolls 6 , the message says, " The Elder Scrolls 6 is our primary development focus today, with the majority of our team currently working on the next chapter of the franchise. With over 65 million copies sold, players are still exploring Skyrim 15 years later, but we know it's been a very long wait for the sequel. The next chapter is on the way. We're where we planned to be, loving how it looks, and playing it every day."
Bethesda concluded its message by reaffirming that it is building the foundations for the future of all three series: Starfield , The Elder Scrolls , and Fallout .
The Elder Scrolls 6 is currently in development with no announced platforms or release date.
