First ever Augusta Video Game Exposition happening in March
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) –Gamers in the area have something to be excited about. The Augusta Video Game Exposition is making its debut on March 22, from Noon to 7 p.m. at the Elks Lodge.
To find out more about the event we had founder, David Bryant to find out what people can expect from the event.
What is this event all about?
"This is an event for the video game community here in Augusta. We don't have a lot of stores, we don't have a lot of places where gamers and collectors can get together and share common interests or even shop. You have some of your national chains, and a couple of stores here and there, like a swap meet, but there's no real place for gamers to meet. This has been created so gamers can meet up, they swap with local, regional, and small businesses. They can look for items for their collection, participate in tournaments, you can meet some special guests, it's really for the video game community to get together, shop, maybe meet someone you, maybe you learn about other events happening in the greater area."
Talk to me about more of the things that will be there?
"Our biggest thing is our guest Michael Thomasson, he's a historian, former world record video game collector, also a tv personality, he spent some time on MTV in the past. He also has something called 'Bears Brown Box,' it's a video game system that originated in the 60's, those are the origins that we'll have, we'll have everything going back that far, we have some arcades that are retro, also thing for people with Xbox, or their Playstation 5, or if they want to meet a local artist, have their face painted, see who's got 3D prints, or take part in the food trucks that will be there."
What do you want people to walk away with from this event?
"I want them to have the experience that the community came together for them, that they walk away with a positive experience like they got a piece of their collection, or they got to foster some new relationships, that they got introduced to a business that they didn't know was in the area. "
How much does it cost to get in?
"It's free entry, we are not doing anything for admissions for this. There will be some costs with the arcade tournaments. It's March 22 from Noon to 7 p.m."
