New Monster Hunter Stories 3 trailer sparks new speculation and questions

GHENT, WV – A new Monster Hunter Stories 3 trailer was released on February 21, 2026, but what do you need to know about what was included?

The first thing you need to know is that the trailer introduced so many new monsters and monsties. We see things like Malzeno and Ajarakan in the trailer, for example. There are many more, but we're actually going to jump to the very end where Narwa and Ibushi twirled into the trailer. Narwa and Ibushi each posed a pretty big threat in Monster Hunter Rise, so seeing them in Stories is pretty exciting! They also seemed to appear together which poses the question as to if this will be a battle where you face both of them together or if maybe they'll appear in phases.

On the subject of monsters that could be hard to fight…jumping back to the beginning of the trailer we see a fossilized looking Lao-Shan Lung and this thing is absolutely MASSIVE. It's big enough that people effortlessly walk on it, but it does pose the question about if there are other lao-shan lung for us to fight in the world or if this specific lao-shan lung might be revived in some way, creating a massive enemy for us to fight.

Outside of monsters, we also have great news confirmed about companions. Eleanor is seen using a hammer in this trailer rather than the great sword we've come to expect. She also trades out Angie, her anjanath, for another monster. This confirms a rumor that had been going around for a while – that companions can get new weapons and monsties. It's expected that these new tools will be added to their arsenals after certain side missions are complete, but we'll just have to wait and see.

We also get more of a look at the world, being introduced to a dessert city called Galyad. The city seems pretty busy and this calls to question how many maps we'll have access to exploring.

A lot of teasers are also danged in front of gamers about the story including the introduction of a new egg that apparently the "bad guys" want to steal. We have no idea what's in it yet (my guess based on the pattern is Arkveld), so that'll be an interesting mystery to unravel. It's also interested to see Eleanor being stuck in the middle of all of this because she, in the trailer, is clearly siding with the main character despite the "bad guys" being the people from her home country.

While we won't know the full context of everything until the game releases in full, there are lots of new things to speculate about.

Something fun I noticed in particular was that our protagonist's acclaimed "best friend" is nowhere to be seen in this trailer – not even in cutscenes. Where is Simon? Did he die? Is he kidnapped?

What are your theories after this most recent trailer?
