Nocturnal 2: A City Stuck in Sleep, Awakened by Flame
At the Six One Indie Showcase, Nocturnal 2 caught attention as the sequel to a cult Metroidvania, unveiling its latest trailer and core vision. Developed by Sunnyside Games, this title takes place in a city called Ytash, plunged into an eternal slumber, where your task is to rekindle life through flame and memory.
Unlike many linear platformers, Nocturnal 2 promises non-linear exploration, inviting players to venture into the dark depths and dizzying heights of Ytash in search of pieces of a forgotten poem. Those verses, coupled with a "burn-out" mechanic, empower you to relight dormant places and burn through obstacles or enemies. The sequencing of how you open paths, reclaim light, and comb through ruins lies at the heart of the design.
Combat leans fast and aerial, encouraging fluid motions between platforms, enemies, and verticality. The act of carrying flame is not just thematic—it becomes a system that must be managed and mastered. As declared on its Steam page, Nocturnal 2 is shaping up as an action-adventure with "dark depths and towering heights" to explore.
While the game doesn't yet have an exact release date, it's expected to arrive in Q1 2026 on PC and Nintendo Switch. The trailer shown at Six One reinforced that this sequel isn't just about bigger fights—it's about restoring a city, navigating silence, and reclaiming memory one flicker at a time.
