Nvidia Offers New RTX 5080 Tier for GeForce Now With 5K 120 FPS Support
Nvidia has upgraded its GeForce Now game streaming service with new hardware and a new performance tier. Utilizing its RTX 5080 graphics cards, it will offer a higher resolution, high frame rate option for gamers, with up to 5K resolution and 120 FPS support. Availability will start on Sept. 10, with all existing RTX 4080 subscribers upgraded automatically.
Game streaming has become an increasingly popular way for gamers to access the latest games at the highest possible detail settings without spending the fortune it takes to assemble a top-tier gaming PC. Nvidia offers a range of tiers, with higher-powered GPUs costing more but delivering higher detail settings in games at higher maximum frame rates. The RTX 5080 tier replaces the existing RTX 4080 tier, offering a sizeable uptick in performance.
To date, the most powerful GPU you could use as part of GeForce Now was an RTX 4080. This is a powerful card, but a far cry from Nvidia's current-generation RTX 5080 and 5090 GPUs. While that latter card, the current-gen flagship, isn't available as an option, the GeForce Now Ultimate tier will enjoy RTX 5080 performance from Sept. 10.

The upgraded plan will support up to 5K or 4K at up to 120 FPS, 1440p at up to 240 FPS, and 1080p at up to 360 FPS, depending on the game. It will also offer access to Nvidia's DLSS 4 technology in compatible games, Nvidia Reflex for faster response times, and Cloud G-Sync for compatible monitors. Finally, it gives gamers shorter queuing times to join the server and 16 virtual CPU cores for the best performance and streaming experience. It's also entirely ad-free (as it should be for $20 a month).
The only limitation is an eight-hour session length. You can restart a new session after that time has ended, though. Total monthly playtime is limited to 100 hours, with 15 hours rolled over each month.
The "Performance" tier still offers RTX 50-series performance, though it has a lower card tier and eight virtual CPU cores. It's also limited to 1440p resolution. There's a free tier with weaker performance, longer queue times, and a limited one-hour session time.
All GeForce Now tiers are limited to a selection of games —though there are thousands of them—with a new ability to install some games not strictly covered under GeForce Now Compatible.
