Overwatch Drops The "2", Renames Back to Overwatch
Blizzard Entertainment just announced that Overwatch is dropping the "2" and will rename back to "Overwatch" in its upcoming season. In the latest Overwatch Spotlight , Blizzard shared that this change would take effect on the upcoming season on February 10. Additionally, Blizzard is aiming to tell a multi-faceted, fully connected story with the game that will span the entire year.

Blizzard has stated that with The Reign of Talon update, players will experience a narrative arc that has six seasons. After this upcoming narrative arc is completed, 2027 will introduce another narrative that will also begin with Season 1 2027. Furthermore, Blizzard will be introducing 10 new heroes all throughout the year to help tell The Reign of Talon story. The first five of these new upcoming heroes will be released on February 10, at the launch of Season 1.
The upcoming story arc for The Reign of Talon will see Overwatch's fight against the organization evolve in real time. Players will be able to see the world of Overwatch shift around them through updated maps, new art, and more. Blizzard has stated that this new arc will begin with a new cinematic, with updates coming in the form of:

In addition to the announcement of Overwatch's upcoming narrative overall, the game will also implement the upcoming changes:
New Sub-Roles and Passives
Starting with Overwatch Season 1 2026, Overwatch's core roles, namely Tank, Damage, and Support, will be getting sub-roles. Each sub-role has a passive that makes heroes more distinct from other heroes with the same core role. Conquest Meta Event

A new meta event called Conquest will be introduced in Overwatch Season 1 2026. In this five-week meta event, players can choose to represent either Overwatch or Talon. Afterwards, players will complete missions tied to the lore and the players on the faction with the most successful missions will get rewards. Players will be able to switch their allegiance after they complete their current week's faction pass. Furthermore, players will be able to claim the following rewards:

UI/UX Refresh

Finally, Overwatch is getting an updated UI in Overwatch Season 1 2026 which Blizzard hopes will help restore some personality while in-game.
The updated UI will include the lobby, play cards, navigation, hero gallery, and social panel. Additionally, a notification hub should help consolidate important updates. Furthermore, Season 1 will feature a new 3D lobby that includes the selected hero displayed. This will be expanded in Season 4 to include all group members.
Overwatch Season 1 will be arriving on February 10, 2026.
