A Clay Classic Returns
Indie studio Claymatic Games has officially launched Platypus Reclayed , a definitive reimagining of the 2002 clay-animated shoot-'em-up. The game is out now on PC , Mac, PlayStation 4|5 , Xbox Series X|S , and Nintendo Switch for $14.99, with a 10% discount during launch week.
Players on Steam can also grab the Special Edition, which includes the original soundtrack (OST) and a digital art book for an additional $5. Both extras are also available separately.
Built from the Ground Up
The original Platypus was one of the first indie games to break through commercially, celebrated for its handcrafted clay visuals and straightforward but addictive gameplay. Now, more than two decades later, original creator Anthony Flack has returned with Claymatic Games to rebuild the title from scratch for modern platforms.
The new version retains the one-button accessibility of the original while enhancing every aspect with:
-
4K widescreen visuals
-
New stage and remixed levels
-
Fresh enemies and weapons
-
Adjustable difficulty modes
-
Expanded soundtrack with high-quality remixes
-
Enhanced drop-in co-op
-
Modding support (PC)
"Platypus' simplicity is the key to its longevity," said Anthony Flack. "We wanted to return to something immediate and joyful—you move, you shoot, and you're having fun in seconds."
What's New in Platypus Reclayed?
Along with its upgraded clay visuals and rebuilt engine, Platypus Reclayed offers new features designed to expand replayability:
-
Two-player simultaneous co-opfor drop-in fun
-
Score Attackmode: a one-life permadeath challenge
-
Practice modefor perfecting runs
-
Adjustable difficulty levels, catering to casual players and shmup veterans alike
-
Modding support, letting fans customize art, audio, and even levels (PC only)
The expanded soundtrack also features officially licensed remixes of 1980s game classics from C64audio.
A Timeless Indie Legend
When Platypus first released in 2002, the term "indie game" was barely recognized. Without platforms like Xbox Live Arcade or Steam Greenlight, the clay-animated shmup carved out a fanbase entirely through its unique style and tight design. Even today, it maintains a community of modders and fan artists.
Now, Platypus Reclayed ensures the series can reach new generations while staying true to its roots.
