Do you play Fortnite ? The deadline is quickly approaching to apply for a refund in a massive settlement involving the game.

On June 25, the Federal Trade Commission announced that it will be sending more than $126 million to Fortnite players who were charged for unwanted purchases while playing the popular video game.

In addition to the refunds, the FTC announced that it was reopening the process for Fortnite gamers and their parents or guardians to submit a claim that stems from its 2023 settlement with Epic Games , the company responsible for Fortnite.

This will be the second round of refunds in the Fortnite settlement. As reported by USA TODAY , the first round in December 2024 sent a total of $72 million in refunds to Epic Games customers who were "tricked" into making unwanted purchases while playing Fortnite. At the time, the FTC said it planned to distribute additional funds at a later date.

Here's what we know about the settlement and how you can file a claim as the deadline quickly approaches.

Why is Fortnite refunding money to players?

Epic Games agreed to pay money to settle allegations related to in-game purchases. Per the FTC , the company "unlawfully charged players for unwanted purchases, let children rack up unauthorized charges without their parents' permission, and blocked some users who disputed wrongful charges from accessing their purchased content."

The settlement also requires Epic Games to get positive consent prior to charging users and banned it from locking players out of their accounts for disputing unauthorized charges.

Who is eligible to file a claim?

Per the FTC, you may apply for a refund if any of the following statements are true:

• You were charged in-game currency for items you didn't want between January 2017 and September 2022

• Your child made charges to your credit card without your knowledge between January 2017 and November 2018

• Your account was locked between January 2017 and September 2022 after you complained to your credit card company about wrongful charges

You must be at least 18 years old to submit a claim form. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must complete the claim form for you.

When is the deadline to file a Fortnite claim?

The deadline to file a claim is July 9, 2025.

How much will be refunded in Fortnite settlement?

If your claim is approved, the FTC says that your payment amount will depend on several factors, including how many people file a claim.

Overall, the FTC will send 969,173 payments totaling more than $126 million.

When and how will I get my refund?

You can choose to receive a refund by check or PayPal payment.

If you get a check, the FTC asks that you cash it within 90 days. If you get a PayPal payment, the FTC asks that you accept it within 30 days.

Per the FTC, payments are expected to be sent in 2026 after all claims have been reviewed and validated.

How to file a claim in Fortnite settlement

You can apply for a refund online at https://www.fortniterefund.com/file-a-claim?portalid=0 .

To apply, you will need either a claim number or your Epic Account ID . Filing a claim will not impact your Fortnite account and you will not lose any items you have purchased.
