State of Play September 2025: Live updates and everything announced for PS5

The latest State of Play showcase just took place. A couple of times a year, Sony will hold one of these presentations to highlight upcoming first-party, third-party, and indie games coming to PS5 , PS5 Pro, PS4, and PlayStation VR2. This month's show featured Saros , the next game from Returnal developer Housemarque , as well as Marvel's Wolverine .

This showcase was also perfectly timed with Tokyo Game Show, a Japanese gaming expo that has already been home to reveals like Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties and Annapurna Interactive's 2026 game lineup . 2025 has been a quieter year for PlayStation, with a couple of key highlights like Ghost of Yōtei and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach making up for the lack of more exclusives and lackluster titles such as Lost Soul Aside .

With this State of Play, PlayStation Studios gave us a better idea of what 2026's PS5 game lineup will look like. On top of that. It also included release dates for a lot of third-party games, such as Crimson Desert, Nioh 3 , and Code Vein 2 .

A lot was revealed over the course of this 35+ minute State of Play . I live-blogged through the showcase and broke down every announcement that was made during it. Keep reading to find out more details about what was revealed for PS5.

[5:43] That's a wrap!

Overall, I thought this was a solid State of Play. There weren't any mind-blowing reveals, but Saros and Marvel's Wolverine both look great, as do some third-party games like Chronoscript: The Endless End and Battlefield 6. [5:41] Marvel's Wolverine will finally come out next fall

I got exactly what I wanted from this State of Play, as Insomniac Games showed off Marvel's Wolverine with a bloody new trailer and dev diary about its story and brutal combat to close things out. We see the popular X-Men character fighting in his superhero outfit and civilian clothing, affirmed that Mystique, Omega Red, and Sentinels are in the game, and got a fall 2026 release window. We'll learn more about it next spring.

[5:36] Gran Turismo is more popular than you think

Kazunori Yamauchi showed up in the State of Play to discuss the Gran Turismo franchise. He confirmed the racing game series has sold over 100 million units, confirmed that a major Gran Turismo 7 update is coming in December. It's celebrating an anniversary this year, as is God of War, which is getting a new themed DualSense controller

[5:34] We know some of the games coming to PS Plus next month

PlayStation teased some of the games PS Plus subscribers can expect in the coming weeks. For the Essential monthly games, we'll be getting Alan Wake 2, Goat Simulator 3, and Cocoon on October 7. The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is also coming to PS Plus Extra's catalog on September 26. Finally, PS Plus Premium's catalog was confirmed to be getting Tekken 3, Tomb Raider: Anniversary , and SoulCalibur 3 in the future.

[5:31] New PlayStation wireless speakers were revealed

This State of Play wasn't limited to just video game announcements. Sony unveiled its Pulse Elevate Wireless Speakers, giving players another way to listen to their PC and PS5 games.

[5:29] Crimson Desert finally has a release date

Pearl Abyss, best known for making MMO Black Desert Online , has been working on a single-player action game called Crimson Desert for quite a while. It has been delayed several times, but during the State of Play finally received a March 19, 2026 release date.

[5:27] Japanese developers showed up to show off their games

PlayStation highlighted several more games from Japanese studios, allowing the developers themselves to introduce the games. Titles featured during this segment included Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles (out September 30), Let it Die: Inferno (out December 3), and Chronoscript: The Endless End (out next year).

[5:22] Code Vein 2 launches in January 2026

Bandai Namco Entertainment showed off Code Vein 2 for the first time since the Soulslike's reveal at Summer Game Fest earlier this year. It got a January 30 release date.

[5:20] Koei Tecmo showed off Nioh 3 and Dynasty Warriors 3's remaster

Koei Tecmo had two back-to-back announcements during this State of Play. First, it proved the leaks correct by announcing a February 6, 2026 release date for Nioh 3 . Then, it announced a remaster of the Dynasty Warriors 3 , titled Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered . It's out March 19, 2026

[5:18] Several third-party games were shown off

Some representatives from PlayStation popped up several minutes to reveal several third-party games quickly. That includes Deus Ex Remastered (out February 5, 2026), Halloween (out September 8, 2026), Last Epoch (getting an expansion the day it launches on PS5), The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin (out January 28, 2026), and Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds (which is getting Mega Man DLC).

[5:12] Battlefield 6's campaign got its first trailer

EA showed up at this State of Play to give the first in-depth look at the game's campaign, which sees NATO fighting against a lot of nations that defected from it at the behest of a private military company. Battlefield 6 launches on October 10.

[5:10] Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is coming to PS5

Microsoft is continuing its efforts to bring more and more of its games to PS5. The next up is Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 , which is coming out on December 8. PlayStation VR2 support is in development for it as well.

[5:08] The studio behind Disco Elysium is bringing its next game to PS5

After showing it off at Gamescom Opening Night Live , Studio ZU/AM released a gameplay trailer for its next game, Zero Parades . It's coming to PS5 sometime next year.

[5:06] Saros looks like a lot of fun, and is out next March

The State of Play kicked off with a five-minute narrated gameplay reveal for Saros , the next game from Housemarque. Like Returnal , it's a fast-paced sci-fi third-person shooter where players fight their way through a shape-shifting alien planet. Players dash around, shoot things, and block enemy bullets with their shield in order to build up the power of stronger attacks. It looks great, and got a release date of March 20, 2026.

[4:00] State of Play leaks and rumors

Some rumors and leaks related to the State of Play have popped up ahead of the show. Pre-orders for Nioh 3 leaked the game's release date earlier today, so it seems plausible that this information will be officially announced during the show. A God of War Metroidvania game is also rumored, which is good timing if true, as Hollow Knight: Silksong just introduced lots of new fans to the genre. Another leaker is claiming publishers like Pearl Abyss, EA, and even Xbox Game Studios will show up too. As for what won't appear, Forbes' Paul Tassi says Bungie's troubled multiplayer shooter Marathon won't be featured .

[3:30] Third-party and indie State of Play predictions

These are much harder to predict, but I'd love for Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra to finally reappear here. That's another mysterious single-player action-adventure Marvel game with a neat premise (Captain America and Black Panther working together during World War 2) that we haven't seen in action in quite a while. I'm always down to be delighted by a surprising and innovative indie game too, so hopefully something like that will show up in an hour and a half.

[3:00] First-party State of Play predictions

We're now two hours out from the start of the State of Play. That means it's time to start thinking about what we'd love to see in the showcase. While I doubt it appears, I'd love to finally see more of Marvel's Wolverine from Insomniac Games. It's wild to think about the fact that Sony hasn't officially shown that game off since it was first teased four years ago. If it's out next year, now would be a great time to release a new trailer for the game.
