Pay attention, folks, because we may just be getting the best sports game of the year come September. NBA 2K27 is officially coming to PS5 and lets you control stars from both the NBA and WNBA on the court. I love basketball, and as soon as I saw Caitlin Clark marking the first WNBA player to headline the premium edition of the new NBA2K game, I knew that I had to highlight this one for our list. Along with that historic factor, the upcoming PS5 game comes with smarter AI defense, a bunch of improvements, new content, and expanded features across the board. It is all very exciting.

Developer:Nihon Falcom, PH3 GmbH
Publisher:NIS America, Inc.
Release date:September 10, 2026

The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero is the fourth game in the Trails series, but don't worry; you don't really need to play The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 3rd before you pick this one up, folks, since it kicks off a new story with fresh characters. In The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero, you play as rookie Lloyd Bannings, who is assigned to the Special Support Section, a new department of the Crossbell police. This is a JRPG with turn-based combat, so keep that in mind before you dive in. However, even if you are a turn-based newbie, I really recommend this one, as its story, tapping into all the civil unrest and political tension plaguing the city, is super interesting and will hook you for sure.

Ok so this is the sequel to The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero, and for this one I do recommend playing that title before picking this PS5 game up. The story sees Lloyd Bannings and his friends return, only this time they have a bunch of new threats to face if they want to keep the peace. I will say that the story isn't as good as Zero in my opinion, but the payoff is great if you stick with it. So if you love JRPGs, then check this one out.

Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter is one of the best JRPG remakes around, so of course I'm excited for its sequel, Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter. Coming to the PS5 in September, Estelle and Joshua have finally become senior bracers; however, they have been separated, and it's up to you to correct that fact. Perhaps the gnarliest game of Summer Game Fest 2025, Ill has resurfaced after several years of cooking from developer Team Cloud. It comes with good news for horror fans: it looks gorier than ever, with its creature design leaning into body horror with zombified babies and – for lack of a better term – inside-out people. There was also a huge emphasis on reactivity to gunshots – shoot a humanoid in the leg, and it stumbles down for an execution. This has been on indie horror fans' radars for years, but fingers crossed it's inching toward a release date now that it's under the wing of Atomic Heart developer Mundfish's new creative label.
