Wolverine’s Ferocity Unleashed: First Gameplay Surfaces in State of Play

At Sony's September 2025 State of Play showcase, Insomniac Games revealed Marvel's Wolverine in action for the first time—offering a glimpse into what promises to be a darker, blood-soaked take on the iconic mutant.

In the new trailer, Wolverine dispatches enemies with brutal claw strikes, bone-crushing combos, and dramatic finishers—underscoring that this is a game unafraid to lean into mature violence. Sony confirmed that Wolverine will debut Fall 2026, exclusively for PlayStation 5.

Suprising Roles

Perhaps the biggest reveal: Australian actor Liam McIntyre (known for Spartacus, Gears of War) will voice James "Logan" Howlett in the game. His casting was confirmed during the showcase, putting a recognizable face (or voice) on a long-anticipated role.

Beyond combat, the trailer hints at story threads centered on Wolverine's enigmatic past. Dialogue suggests Logan is "on the hunt to uncover the secrets of a dark past that keeps eluding him," implying a narrative with deep emotional stakes.

This reveal marks a shift from the more family-friendly tone of Insomniac's Spider-Man titles, positioning Wolverine as a mature, intense standalone experience. Also of note: the project has undergone its share of turbulence—Insomniac suffered a significant data breach in 2023, exposing early footage, and the game's leadership has shifted, with Marcus Smith and Mike Daly now leading key roles.

While many details remain under wraps—such as full gameplay systems, supporting cast, and world structure—this State of Play debut confirms one thing: Marvel's Wolverine intends to deliver a raw, uncompromising journey for Logan and his fans.
