YouTube TV Announces Big News For ESPN Fans

After months of uncertainty, YouTube TV customers can now finally access ESPN Unlimited.

Cord Cutters News first reported the major update on Monday, which signaled the end of a nearly year-long back-and-forth.

What it means

YouTube TV users can fully connect to ESPN services, including fantasy football tracking and access to live streaming from ESPN Unlimited.

"Once activated, this connection allows viewers to monitor their NFL fantasy scores in real time while watching games or related content on YouTube TV, and it opens the door to streaming live sports events via the separate ESPN application," Cord Cutters said.

This integration lets YouTube TV customers stream live games available on the ESPN app without having to open the app itself. The content, including events only broadcast on ESPN+ (now ESPN Select), will be available directly on YouTube TV.

Needless to say, this is a massive development with college football one month away.

What took so long?

Last November, Disney and YouTube TV finally came to an agreement to settle a contentious carriage dispute . As part of the deal, YouTube TV subscribers would eventually have the ability to integrate ESPN Unlimited content onto their account.

The process to get to this point was an arduous one though. There were hints that a full integration was coming, but YouTube TV subscribers missed out on several major streaming events waiting for the proverbial eagle to land.

"As part of the new distribution deal between YouTube TV and Disney, ESPN Unlimited content will be integrated directly into the YouTube TV app at some point down the line," Awful Announcing said back in April. "However, this initial authentication process appears to only allow YouTube TV subscribers to sign in on the ESPN app, like one would with Comcast or DirecTV credentials, and stream events through ESPN's platform. A timeline for full ESPN integration into YouTube TV remains unknown."
