YouTube TV avoids another blackout by signing a new contract to keep The Weather Channel and other important shows on the air
It might be hard to believe, but it's been nearly two decades since Netflix launched its streaming service. When it started, it was a way for users to enjoy shows and movies while their discs by mail took some time to arrive. Fast-forward to 2026, and streaming services are dominating, with pretty much every major company launching its own competing service with exclusive shows.
And while we love the choices, sometimes it can become a little messy when it comes to the content side of things. We got to witness this just last year, when YouTube TV couldn't work out content deals with major providers like Disney, which resulted in channels being removed from the service. It's not something you want to go through as a customer.
The shows will go on
With that said, it looks like YouTube is back in the news again, this time, avoiding any blackouts and securing rights to content from Allen Media Group. The news comes from The Hollywood Reporter , with the outlet sharing that YouTube TV has reached a "long-term agreement (via Android Authority )."
If you're not really familiar with the Allen Media Group name, it's been around for some time in different iterations and with different names. And while you might not know the group, there's a pretty good chance you've at the very least watched the shows they offer, with one of its most popular offerings being The Weather Channel.
This deal will also secure other Allen Media Group properties for YouTube TV, such as, Cars.TV, Pets.TV, Comedy.TV, Recipe.TV, and Justice Central. If you're someone that watches any of these shows, you'll be happy to know that you can continue to enjoy them on YouTube TV as usual.
While YouTube TV is the place to go if you want to watch TV shows online, the cost of the service has increased dramatically over the past decade. While it started out costing just $35/month, it's now costing some subscribers as much as $83/month. The good news is that if you only like to watch certain things, there are now cheaper options .
Of course, YouTube is constantly adding little things here and there to make the service better. Most recently, the brand upgraded its Multiview feature , allowing it to be customized with whatever channels users wanted to watch at once. It's one of the highlight features of the service, along with unlimited DVR.
