WATN

Traveling during a holiday weekend can be stressful, but for this Labor Day weekend, ABC24 has you covered with what you need to know before heading to the airport.

The Labor Day travel period runs from Thursday, Sept. 3, through Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Frederick W. Smith International Airport officials estimate around 45,000 travelers will pass through the TSA checkpoint during the holiday travel period.

With thousands of travelers expected each day, here's how you can prepare for a smoother airport experience.

Airport officials say Friday is expected to be the busiest day of the holiday weekend, with more than 9,000 people projected to pass through TSA checkpoints.

Travelers are encouraged to arrive at least two hours before their scheduled departure time to allow enough time for checking bags and clearing security.

Tunnel B has reopened, reducing the additional walking time travelers may have needed to account for when parking at the airport.

For those planning to park at the airport, parking garage occupancy and available spaces can be checked ahead of time on the airport's website.
