321 Flavor Bites: Do you make a killer key lime pie? Enter it in this contest
This job is not without its perks.
Last week, I had the opportunity to judge the Sláinte Traditions & Cheers Cocktail Competition at 28 North Gastropub in Viera.
It was a fun night of laughter, libations and great food. Hiiji Harvin from Villa Palma at the Village in Cocoa Village won the the final round, producing a multi-faceted cocktail that included a cotton candy floater and Sláinte Irish Whiskey.
Next up, I've been invited to judge the Space Coast Key Lime Pie Contest at upcoming Space Coast Key Lime Pie Festival. (So much for that diet I started.)
The festival is set for Jan. 19-21 at Space Coast Daily Park in Viera, with the pie contest taking place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21.
You've still got time to enter, so if you make a killer key lime pie, join the fun.
Pies must be received at the Space Coast Daily Park Budweiser Stage by noon. The event starts at 2 p.m. Winners will be announced after judging is complete and prizes for First, Second and Third will be awarded.
An entry form is available at the Space Coast Key Lime Pie Festival website . For more information, email contest chair Meg Tworkowski at megtworkowski@gmail.com or call 321-537-1498.
Laidback riverfront dining
When restaurant critic Lyn Dowling decided to review Marker 24 Riverfront Grille on Merritt Island , I had mixed feelings. I wanted to keep this place our little secret. I love being able to slip through the gate into what feels like a secret tropical garden and immediately find a table.
But Lyn and I have a responsibility to you, and that includes letting you know about the places we discover. All of them.
If you haven't been, head over on the next mild winter day. Few things are better than sitting outside in the shade of towering palms and watching the Banana River lap at the shore.
Come on in, the wine is fine
Just because the holidays are over doesn't mean you have to stop celebrating.
Café Margaux in Cocoa Village will host fourth-generation wine grower Giulio Rossello for two wine dinners at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday.
Rossello Vini, a family vineyard in Italy's Piedmonte, has been blessed with spectacular looks and wines. Café Margaux has tapped unto this enological cornucopia as a fitting end for its 2023-24 wine season.
