"I leaned over and whispered to my manager, 'I think it's going to Mikey,'" Moore recalled. "I don't know why I knew, but I did."

And when Emma Stone read that Madison won best actress, Moore said she was "centered and calm." She continued, "I didn't feel gutted. I didn't feel any of those kinds of things. I just trusted, and am in trust of, whatever is going to unfold."

Madison was nominated for playing a sex worker in Anora (which dominated the Oscars with five wins ), and she won BAFTA and Spirit awards for her role. Moore, who was nominated for her role in the horror film The Substance — where she played an aging actress who takes injections to transform into a younger version of herself — won the Golden Globe, Critics Choice and SAG awards, making her the frontrunner to also nab the Oscar .

In Moore's Golden Globe acceptance speech , she said the award was the first she'd won as an actor, and reflected on a former agent telling her she was a "popcorn actress."

"At that time I made that mean that this wasn't something that I was allowed to have, that I could do movies that were successful, that made a lot of money," she said. "But that I couldn't be acknowledged and I bought in and I believed that. And that corroded me over a time." Moore then celebrated her win as a "marker of my wholeness and of the love that is driving me and for the gift of doing something I love and being reminded that I do belong."
