ESPN's Kendrick Perkins likes what he's seeing in Klay Thompson recently. The Dallas Mavericks guard outed his romantic relationship with popular rapper Megan Thee Stallion a few weeks ago. Since then, he's looked like a different man.
According to Perkins, he's seen a lot of change in Thompson — the good ones — since he's been hanging out with the Grammy-winning singer. However, Big Perk also cautioned Klay about dating a Texas native because he has first hand expirance.
"I'mma tell you something. Hey boy, I'm watching you. You got a different glow on your face. I saw you in the gym. I think he hit 70-plus straight 3's, 72 or something around their legs, feeling good and all that," Perk began his statement. "Hey boy, Texas women are different. I'm telling you straight up...Once you're there, you're there. You're stuck. That's the effect."
Perkins' wife is a Texan
Big Perk is happily married to Vanity Alpough, who is from Port Arthur, Texas. Aplough attended Medical High School in Beaumont, while Kendrick attended adjacent Clifton J. Ozen High School. They met there and have been married since 2009.
Meanwhile, Megan was born to Joseph Jr. and Holly Pete in San Antonio. She went to Pearland High School before graduating with a degree in Health Administration from Texas Southern University. She earned the monicker "Stallion" because, like many women from the Southern United States, she is tall and has a voluptuous build.
"Most importantly bro, outside of that, I'm happy that Klay looks happy, Because we have to think about his last three, four years, dealing with an ACL injury, Achilles injury, the frustration with Golden State, leaving Golden State, went to Dallas, not finding like that peace that safe place, that happiness. Hey Klay, live it up because Dallas gonna need you next year," he added.
Shaq has a different view
Interestingly, Shaquille O'Neal has a very different outlook on the Klay-Megan relationship than Kendrick Perkins. On a recent episode of "The Big Podcast," the Hall of Famer bluntly predicted the couple wouldn't last past the fall .
While Shaq's six-week shelf life for the couple was clearly a joke, Perkins' take came from personal experience. And while no two relationships are the same, it seems like both Klay and Megan are in this for the right reasons.
"This is my first relationship where I've ever been with somebody who's genuinely a nice person and he makes me genuinely happy," Megan told PageSix . "I just never dated somebody like him before and I'm just grateful that he's here by my side and he feels the same way about me."
They're still in the honeymoon phase, so it's too early to tell how far things will go. But whether you're siding with Shaq's skepticism or Perk's optimism, the reality is simple — time will tell.
