Mark Hamill wanted to leave the U.S. after Donald Trump go re-elected as president, until his wife convinced him to stay.

The actor, best known for his portrayal of Luke Skywalker in the "Star Wars" franchise, recently revealed in an interview with The Times that he gave his wife the option of moving to either London or Ireland when Trump won the 2024 election.

"She's very clever," Hamill told the outlet. "She didn't respond right away but a week later she said, 'I'm surprised you would allow him to force you out of your own country.'"

"That son of a (expletive)," he continued. "I thought, 'I'm not leaving.'"

Hamill, who is a a lifelong and avid Democrat, added that he also stayed in the U.S. because he believes there are still "more honest, decent people than there are the MAGA crowd."

"If I didn't, I'd move back to England," the actor said.

Hamill is also a longtime critic of Trump and has frequently ridiculed him on social media and interviews. He backed former Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential race and shared his dismay when Trump won.

"They say we get the leaders we deserve. Either that has just been disproven, or this is not the America we all thought we were living in," Hamill wrote on X at the time.

In his chat with The Times, Hamill expressed his disappointment with the influx of ICE arrests that have skyrocketed under Trump's time in office.

"A few weeks ago ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] agents were pulling people out of their cars," he told the outlet. "They wore masks and had no identification to show they were law enforcement. They were just brutalising people, kneeling on their necks."

While Hamill decided to not to move, Trump's presidency has prompted a few celebrities to leave the U.S. Ellen DeGeneres relocated to the English countryside with her wife, Portia de Rossi, in July and Rosie O'Donnell moved to Ireland with her 12-year-old daughter, Clay, who is non-binary, in January.
