Dolly Parton’s Unique Tribute to Late Husband Is as Sweet as Their Love

On Friday, March 7, the 79-year-old country legend quietly dropped a new song on YouTube, which she dedicated to her late husband.
The tune, which she titled "If You Hadn't Been There," highlighted some of Parton's most cherished memories and moments with Dean and praised him for his unwavering support throughout their 59 years of marriage.
"I wouldn't be here If you hadn't been there / Holding my hand / Showing you care / You made me dream / More than I dared / And I wouldn't be here / If you hadn't been there," she sang in the chorus.
Parton shared another nod to their romance in the cover image, using an old photo of her hugging Dean from behind, adding "Dolly + Carl = heart" below the image.
Parton's new tune comes a few hours after she penned a "love note" to all those that have come to support her during this extremely difficult time.
"This is a love note to family, friends, and fans. Thank you for all the messages, cards, and flowers that you've sent to pay your respects for the loss of my beloved husband Carl," she wrote in a graphic uploaded to the social media platform on Thursday, March 6. "I can't reach out personally to each of you but just know it has meant the world to me. He is in God's arms now and I am okay with that. I will always love you. — Dolly."
As Parade previously reported, Dean died on March 3 at the age of 82. A cause of death has not been provided.
