MTV EMAs: Taylor Swift Tops Winners List; Host Rita Ora Pays Tribute to Liam Payne

Taylor Swift was the top winner at Sunday's MTV EMA Awards, which also took time out to honor Liam Payne.

Swift won in the categories of best video with "Fortnight" (feat. Post Malone), best artist, best live and best U.S. act. Tyla followed with her first-ever MTV EMA wins, for best Afrobeats, best R&B and best African act.

During the show, Rita Ora, who hosted the ceremony from Manchester, England, took a moment to pay tribute to Payne, the former One Direction singer who died last month at age 31 after falling from a balcony in Argentina. Ora collaborated with Payne on the 2018 single "For You."

"He had the biggest heart and was always the first person to offer help in any way that he could. He brought so much joy to every room he walked into, and he left such a mark on this world," she said, tearing up. "So, let's just take a moment to remember our friend Liam." A montage of photos was then shown during the ceremony.

Other winners included Sabrina Carpenter, Ariana Grande, Shawn Mendes, Calvin Harris, Imagine Dragons, Eminem and Liam Gallagher 

The show also featured performances by Mendes, Tyla, Benson Boone, Le Sserafim, The Warning, RAYE, Peso Pluma and Estevan Plazola and Busta Rhymes, the latter of whom was presented with the 2024 MTV EMAs Global Icon Award from British rapper Little Simz. Pet Shop Boys, who were honored with the inaugural 2024 MTV EMA Pop Pioneer Award, also closed out the show alongside local string players the Manchester Camerata.
