Beyoncé and Jay-Z will face off this weekend at the 2025 Primetime Emmys
Beyoncé Knowles-Carter and husband Jay-Z will once again go head-to-head — this time at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards.
The "Everything Is Love" hitmakers are both nominated for an Emmy in the same category at this year's awards show, which will be held Sept. 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
Jay-Z, born Shawn Carter, received a nod in the outstanding variety special (live) category for his work as a executive producer for the Super Bowl halftime show headlined by Kendrick Lamar. Through a partnership with his entertainment company Roc Nation and the NFL , Jay-Z plays a key role in picking the performer and producing the Super Bowl halftime show.
This year's special earned a total of four Emmy nominations, including, outstanding directing for a variety special, outstanding music direction and outstanding choreography (variety/reality).
Meanwhile, Beyoncé earned a nomination in the same category as a performer and executive producer for her NFL Christmas Day halftime performance special on Netflix, dubbed the "Beyoncé Bowl." The Netflix special received a total of five Emmy nominations , with Beyoncé earning three of them directly.
She was also nominated for directing in a variety special in tandem with Alex Rudzinski.
Beyoncé recently earned her first Emmy , winning for outstanding costumes for the "Beyoncé Bowl." The award was announced along with the winners of this year's Emmys in juried categories. She received the award along with her fellow costume designer Shiona Turini, costume supervisor Chelsea Staebell, assistant costume designers Erica Rice and Molly Peters, and head of workroom Timothy White.
The special itself also earned nods for choreography in variety or reality programming and production design for a variety special.
Produced by Beyoncé's Parkwood Entertainment and Jesse Collins Entertainment, her record-breaking Christmas Day halftime performance became a standalone special on Netflix.
During the Christmas special, the "Cowboy Carter" creator hit the stage at NRG Stadium in Houston, putting on a spectacular 12-minute performance at halftime of the game between the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans . It marked the first live performance of songs from "Cowboy Carter," which is her eighth studio album
The Emmys showdown isn't the first time the duo has competed at award shows. The Carters, who have been married for 17 years, have competed in different categories at the Grammy Awards, even scoring some together.
Prior to the 2025 Grammys , Jay and Bey were tied for the most nominations in Grammy history with 88 each. This year, Beyoncé earned 11 nominations for "Cowboy Carter," surpassing her husband and becoming the leading nominee.
They both earned an Emmy nod in 2015 for their "On the Run Tour" HBO special.
The award show will air Sept. 14 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
