  • The Road, a new music competition series featuring Keith Urban as the headlining superstar, premieres on Sunday, Oct. 19 with 12 emerging musicians competing for a record deal, a slot at Stagecoach, and a quarter of a million dollars.

The Blake Shelton/ Taylor Sheridanseries The Road , featuring Keith Urbanas the headlining superstar premieres on Sunday, Oct. 19 with a special 90-minute episode that introduces the 12 talented, emerging musicians who will be competing on the series for the grand prize.

"The last person standing at the end of the tour is going to get a slot at Stagecoach, you're going to get a record deal, and you're going to get a quarter of a million dollars," Urban tells the 12 hopefuls in the exclusive video.

The premiere performance takes place at Tannehill's Music Hall in Ft. Worth, Texas. As each musician performs, Urban and Shelton watch closely to see how they connect with the crowd.

"It looks good out there and the band is sounding cool, so the rest is up to you. Good luck," Shelton tells the 12 musicians.

"Tonight, each of you will have to perform an original song that best represents you as an artist," Urban continues. "Blake and I are going to watch how you guys are connecting with the audience, when you've got them and when you lose them."

And the audience gets to vote for its favorite performances. One of the unlucky three who land in the bottom will be sent home with Shelton and Urban making the final decision.

"I love that the audience is going to be voting," Urban says. "It's really how it should be. It's the people in the room that you've got to get. This is the real deal right here."

The remaining 11 singers will earn a coveted seat on the tour bus and continue competing for a shot at the grand prize.

Grammy® Award winner Gretchen Wilsonwill serve as "tour manager," sharing her words of support, offering viewers a raw, behind-the-scenes look at life on the road – before and after the spotlight hits.

One of the contestants, Britnee Kellogg,40, Anthem, AZ, says, "The prize is unreal. $250,000 can change my life. Winning is why I came here."
The Road premieres with a special 90-minute episode on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CBS. Streams next day on Paramount+.
