A Wildfire Threatens Hope Valley in an All-New ‘When Calls the Heart’ Episode (Exclusive Sneak Peek)

Season 13 of When Calls the Heart is already off to a running start and boy, we're champing at the bit for this week's episode 2, are we not?! With that dark plume of smoke coming from the forest, I'm going to guess it's not the Conclave disagreeing on who's to be Pope. With the kids still in the forest, will Nathan and the guys be able to get them in time? Will they be able to save Goldie National Park?

What happened in the When Calls the Heart season 13 premiere?

In the Season 13 premiere of When Calls the Heart , Elizabeth ( Erin Krakow), Little Jack ( Hyland Goodrich), Nathan ( Kevin McGarry) and Allie ( Jaeda Lily Miller) were getting ready to return to Hope Valley after spending the summer in Cape Fullerton when Lucas ( Chris McNally) called to tell them that inspection of the diabetic clinic was delayed due to the railroad strike. Elizabeth had spent the summer along with Faith ( Andrea Brooks) and Mei ( Amanda Wong) setting up the clinic and getting the necessary equipment needed so that Hope Valley could serve as a Tier 1 Diabetic Clinic for the region. With only one inspector for all of Canada, it was possible that the inspection might be delayed until spring which meant Elizabeth and Jack would need to stay in Cape Fullerton until then for Jack's medical needs.

The four returned to Hope valley for at least the weekend for the grand opening of Goldie National Park and Rosemary's Playhouse. There seemed to be a little flirting going on between Lucas and Edie ( Miranda MacDougall) though both were unsure of where they stood with the other. Elizabeth was resigned to returning to Cape Fullerton and had even arranged for Minnie ( Natasha Burnett) to take over her classes until she returned. Sad to see Elizabeth so dejected, Nathan came up with a solution and had the inspector flown out. The clinic passed inspection and was declared a Tier 1 Diabetic facility, the first in the region. It also meant Elizabeth and Little Jack could stay.

Allie, Opal ( Ava Grace Cooper), Toby ( Billy Christos Jr.), and Cooper ( Elias Leacock) meet up to go hiking in the park. Oliver ( Jacob Shoemay) was to join them but had to stay behind to guard the visitor's center. As the town was about to gather to celebrate the park's grand opening, Florence ( Loretta Walsh) notices a black plume of smoke rising from the area of the national park. With the kids still in the park, Nathan, Oliver, Bill ( Jack Wagner), and Joseph ( Viv Leacock) head out to find them.

What can fans expect in the next episode of When Calls the Heart ?

In "Up in Smoke," this week's all new episode of When Calls the Heart , the citizens of Hope Valley face one of their greatest challenges yet when a dangerous wildfire breaks out in newly opened Goldie National Park. As the fire spreads perilously close to Hope Valley, Nathan, Bill, Joseph, and Oliver race into the park in search of the kids. Meanwhile, Elizabeth, Rosemary, Lee, and Lucas spearhead relief efforts back in town. 

When does When Calls the Heart season 13 episode 2 stream?

When Calls the Heart season 13 episode 2 "Up in Smoke" premieres on Sunday, Jan. 11 at 8 p.m. ET on Hallmark Channel and will be available to stream the next day on Hallmark+.
