This $4.5 Million Mexican Abode Is Built Right Into a Cliff Overlooking the Pacific Ocean
- A $4.5 million cliffside property in Zihuatanejo, Mexico, built by Pend Holdings and marketed by Tracy Tutor at Compass, offers a thrilling and unique living experience with a concrete-encased elevator shaft and stunning ocean views.
Real estate thrill seekers would do well to take a peek at this coastal Mexican abode.
The $4.5 million property in Zihuatanejo, just an hour from Mexico City, is built right into the rugged cliffside, and upon arrival, you don’t even realize the house is there. A simple shelter serves as a carport, and from there, a bridge that seemingly extends into the horizon actually leads to a concrete-encased elevator shaft that ferries you down to the upper level of the residence, which then cascades down toward the ocean. Though a separate stairway makes a less spine-tingling zigzag down from the parking area, the abode , developed by Pend Holdings and marketed in the United States by Tracy Tutor at Compass, certainly isn’t for the faint of heart.

At the base of the external stairs, a lush garden courtyard is framed by an 18-foot native stone wall, serving as a backdrop to the bridge up above. With five bedrooms and 6.5 baths, the building is a study in Brutalist Mexican modern design. Natural materials are used throughout, with ipe wood decking and traditional chukum stucco walls, the latter a technique that dates all the way back to early Mayan civilizations.

The top floor is the heart of the home, with a wood-paneled kitchen and a dining room that spills open to the outdoors. A few steps down, meaning views are preserved from the inside, too, there’s a covered terrace for alfresco hangs. A bar and grilling station allow you to take further advantage of the weather. The pool, lined with hand-cut native black stone tiles, is surrounded by lounge chairs that look out on endless views over the water.
Bedrooms are spread among two lower levels, each chamber accompanied by an en suite bathroom. Floor-to-ceiling windows and balconies mean you can just as easily enjoy the view from down here, while louvered wood panels allow for light and air modulation. On the middle level you’ll also find a home office, and the lower level includes a flex room currently set up as a gym.
Designed by Zozaya Arquitectos , the residence is part of the Punta Garrobo community, which was master-planned by the Related Group . Two other available homes in the development are currently under construction, while another completed property has already been snapped up. Along with all the at-home creature comforts, residents of Punta Garrobo also have access to a private beach club, a signature restaurant, wellness studios, padel and tennis courts, and a private helipad for seamless travel to and from your Pacific Coast hideaway.
