One of the most freeing—and subsequently infuriating—realizations about life is that everything changes. From one perspective, that could mean you won't be in that dead-end job forever or that one day, you too can amass a $237 billion net worth and spend the equivalent 0.02-percent of your earnings on a lavish Venice wedding . On the other, it means that the things you've grown accustomed to might not always stay the same, and eventually, as painful as it can be, they might be gone forever.

Some schools of thought believe that our penchant to become attached to things that were never permanent to begin with is the direct root of our suffering, and in order to heal, we have to learn to surrender to the rhythm of the universe. Besides, some things are in desperate need of a makeover, no matter how charming we may think they are. Case in point: Cracker Barrel . Without wading too far into the deep end, the fan-favorite breakfast chain is known to have a certain country chic aesthetic that can be both comforting and cozy, while simultaneously outdated and socially out of touch.

Sure, there was an era when the kitschy, over-the-top Dixieland vibe worked for the veritable authority in pancake cookery, but these days, consumers want something a little more modern and up to date. You know, fewer outdated tropes and stereotypes, more clean, fresh, and in touch with the times. At least that's what we thought. While most of the time, brands can undergo a refresh and fans won't bat an eye, Cracker Barrel's latest update has longtime fans feeling a little upset.

The changes, like stark white walls and shockingly decluttered stores, started taking shape last summer when the brand announced that they'd be giving their iconic locations a facelift, making them brighter, more modern, and overall more appealing to hungry diners. You could almost liken the changes when SpongeBob became normal. With over 40 of the chain's 600 locations already sporting the new changes, fans are finally weighing in, and they don't seem to be happy.

One disgruntled TikToker went so far as to call the new changes "gross" and said that the new look made them feel "uncomfortable." "They've whitewashed the old country store 😭😭😭," they said. "They millennial greyed it," chimed in someone else. Suffice it to say, loyal customers don't seem to be impressed.

While not everyone is opposed to the nostalgic chain's glow-up, it's obvious that most fans are feeling a bit resistant to change. Whether or not the chain's big swing to win back diners will pay off remains to be seen, but one thing's for sure: we'll just have to settle in and enjoy the ride.
