A Wyoming Ranch of Almost 1.2 Million Acres Hits the Market for $22 Million
- The Midland Ranch, a 1.15-million-acre working estate in Wyoming, is listed for $22 million and includes deeded acres, leased state land, and BLM land with exclusive grazing rights.
Move over, Yellowstone . One of the biggest ranches in the U.S. just hit the market, and it would certainly make any modern-day Dutton seriously jealous. The Midland Ranch, a jaw-dropping 1.15-million-acre working estate in western Wyoming, is listed for $22 million by Court Merrigan of LandVest—a price that almost feels like daylight robbery. For perspective, the 270,000-acre Four Sixes Ranch in Texas, another Yellowstone filming hotspot , sold back in 2022 for a mind-blowing $320 million .
The Midland Ranch isn't just about sprawling acreage—it's a fully operational ecosystem. The vast spread is stitched together with 5,880 deeded acres, 14,102 acres leased from the state of Wyoming, and nearly a million acres of BLM land with exclusive grazing and trailing rights, many held for generations.

A new owner isn't just buying dirt—they're stepping into a century-old, self-sufficient operation where sheep still migrate more than 100 miles seasonally between winter and summer pastures in the time-honored practice of transhumance. Private river frontage, creeks, springs, and senior water rights make the ranch entirely self-reliant—no outside feed required.

Sheep still follow their century-old seasonal migration path across the 1.15-million-acre ranch.
The summer pastures near Prospect Mountain feature fisheries, expansive water rights dating back to the early 1900s, and rock-climbing meccas. The ranch's seasonal base near Prospect Mountain includes two residences, historic buildings, and fully equipped livestock facilities, from corrals and a shipping pen to calving and shearing barns. Elsewhere, there are potential homesites along the Little Sandy River, and farther east, expansive grazing land and winter pastures stretch across BLM lands near Pinedale, Rock Springs, and the Wyoming-Colorado-Utah border.
Adding to its cachet, historic trails, from the Oregon and Mormon Trails to the Owl's Hoot Outlaw Trail once traversed by Butch Cassidy, thread across the landscape. Wildlife, including elk, deer, and antelope, thrives across the property, and conservation-minded buyers could explore easements, habitat preservation, or regenerative ranching projects. For those craving a private sanctuary, the property offers security, self-reliance, and full immersion in one of the West's most pristine and historically rich landscapes.
The property has been in the Arambel family for over 120 years. Third- and fourth-generation sheep ranchers, they've preserved centuries-old rural traditions while carefully stewarding the pristine land. Now, as the next generation of the family expands operations elsewhere in the West, they're offering a rare chance for someone new to step in to build on what's there and to create their own family legacy.
Historic trails crisscross the ranch, from the Oregon and Mormon Trails to the Owl's Hoot Outlaw Trail.

Buyers can acquire the Midland Ranch as a complete estate or pick and choose from the individual parts, each with its own distinct character. In addition to maintaining the property's ranching operations, the next owner can build additional residences to create a private family compound or build a conservation-minded retreat. The possibilities are as endless as the views.
And if you thought one Wyoming mega-ranch was enough, there's also the Pathfinder Ranches, a contiguous cluster of historic working ranches that total nearly a million acres listed for $79.5 million and home to thousands of cows, saddle horses, and landmarks like Independence Rock. Because in the Cowboy State apparently, a million acres is just the start.
