What You Need to Make the Viral Beef Bowl

This viral beef bowl requires just a few basic ingredients. You'll need ground beef, chopped sweet potatoes, cottage cheese, avocado, olive oil, paprika, salt and pepper for seasoning the sweet potatoes, and Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt and pepper for the ground beef.

That's it! Nothing fancy, no hard-to-find ingredients—just simple, whole foods that come together beautifully. I was a little skeptical about the cottage cheese because I'm not usually a fan, but I decided to give it a try and I am so glad I did!

How to Make the Viral Beef Bowl

I seasoned the chopped sweet potatoes with olive oil, paprika, salt and pepper, then roasted them at 450° for about 30 minutes. Roasting brings out the natural sweetness of the potatoes and creates golden, crispy edges, making them the perfect base for this bowl.

While the sweet potatoes were cooking, I browned the ground beef in a pan, seasoning it with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt and pepper. The seasoning mix gave the meat a slightly herby, garlicky flavor that paired perfectly with the other ingredients.

Once everything was cooked, I assembled the bowl: roasted sweet potatoes on the bottom, followed by the seasoned beef, a scoop of cottage cheese and a few slices of creamy avocado on top. I also decided to do a small drizzle of hot honey on top of everything, just for some extra sweetness and a kick of spice.

What I Thought of the Viral Beef Bowl

I went back for seconds and thirds and I will be making this again! The cottage cheese added a nice richness and creaminess that balanced out the savory beef and the sweetness of the roasted potatoes. It almost melted into the warm ingredients, creating a slightly creamy texture without overpowering the dish. If cottage cheese isn't your thing, you can easily swap it for Greek yogurt for a similar creamy texture and the added protein.

The hot honey added just the right amount of sweetness and spice, and it all blended perfectly!

What I love most about this beef bowl is how easy and customizable it is. It's the perfect meal for busy days because you can make everything in about 30 minutes with minimal effort. You can also easily cook the potatoes and beef in advance and then just heat and assemble for a quick lunch or dinner.

How to Make This Recipe Your Own

If you're not a fan of sweet potatoes, you can use rice or Brussels sprouts, and you can swap the ground hamburger for ground turkey, ground or diced chicken or tofu.

Instead of avocado, or along with it, try a handful of arugula for a fresh twist, or toss in some roasted edamame beans for more protein.
