An early end to summer? Labor Day low temps to drop below 50 in Mass.

It's the end of "meteorological summer," which lasts through the calendar months of June, July and August — and it may start to feel like summer is indeed over.

Parts of Massachusetts will see low temperatures below 50 degrees following Labor Day, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Dry weather and clouds are here for much of Labor Day, the Weather Service reported.

A canopy of clouds will be in the sky on Monday in Massachusetts. The clouds are expected to remain in place on Monday but will gradually move towards the northeast through midnight, according to forecasters.

The coastline can expect breezes up to 10 mph, while those on the Cape & Islands can anticipate breezes up to 15 mph, according to the forecast.

"The only real question mark is if we can see patchy fog develop as northeast winds ease and better radiational cooling takes place," forecasters wrote. "Still think it ends up being pretty patchy and we haven't had that much in terms of coverage the last few days."

Temperatures in Pittsfield , Springfield , Worcester and Boston are expected to be the mid to high 70s on Monday, according to the NWS's seven-day forecasts.

Both Boston and Springfield will be partly sunny, while increasing clouds will appear in Worcester and Pittsfield during the daytime, the forecast reads.

Temperatures in Pittsfield are expected to have a low of 49 degrees on Monday night. The skies will be mostly cloudy and patchy fog is likely to appear after 1 a.m., according to the forecast.

Temperatures in Springfield on Monday night are expected to be at a low of 51 degrees, while Worcester is forecasted to have a low of 53 degrees, according to the forecasts. The skies in Worcester will gradually clear up, while the clouds in Springfield will gradually decrease, the forecasts read.

Boston's low will be 59 degrees with a mostly cloudy sky that night, according to the forecast.

Temperatures are expected to remain the same on Tuesday with northeast winds returning to the Bay State, according to the NWS's forecast.

"Clear skies and light winds again favors strong radiational cooling with patchy fog in the river valleys with lows in the upper 40s to mid 50s," forecasters wrote.
