Two Central Massachusetts families are mourning the loss of two young men killed in a single-car crash in Barre the day after Christmas — remembering them both as athletic, adventurous and full of life.

Connor Post, 20, of Gardner, and Michael "MJ" Publicover, 19, of Winchendon, died Dec. 26 when the car they were passengers in crashed around 4 a.m., according to Barre police. The driver, a 20-year-old woman from North Brookfield, was hospitalized with serious injuries. Barre police believe speed was a factor in the single-car crash.

A GoFundMe has been established for the Post family and a Meal Train fundraiser was set up for the Publicover family.

Post was a graduate of Monty Tech and played football in high school, according to his obituary , and later worked as a "diligent carpenter" at Brother's Remodeling. He was known for his love of country music, western wear, the rodeo and was a Dodge Ram fanatic — all of which "showcased his adventurous spirit," his loved ones said. He was also a black belt in Kempo Karate and was "a force to be reckoned with."

Above all, Post "held his family close to his heart" and never missed a chance to tell them how much he loved them, his loved ones said. His mother was "often on the receiving end of his affectionate kisses and hugs," while his father and sisters were "an integral part of his life." He also shared close relationships with his aunt and uncle.

Publicover, who went by "MJ," his mother, Cheri Publicover, told The Worcester Telegram & Gazette , attended Ralph C. Mahar Regional High School in Orange before transferring to Quabbin Regional High School in Barre.

"He put a smile on anyone who knew him or even didn't, faces," Cheri Publicover told the outlet. Publicover was very athletic and had played football since he was 5, which "was his everything," his mother told the outlet. He also loved scooters and BMX bikes.
