Firefighters use pulley to rescue driver from ravine after rollover crash in Western Mass.
Firefighters rescued a driver from a ravine in Ludlow early Wednesday morning following a rollover crash.
The driver involved in the crash called 911 to report the incident on East Street shortly after 4:15 a.m., the Ludlow Fire Department said in a press release . The driver told the dispatcher their car had hit a utility pole and rolled over multiple times before coming to rest in the woods on the side of the road.
The dispatcher stayed on the phone with the driver as police and firefighters responded and helped them locate the car, the fire department said. First responders found the car about 150 feet from the roadway at the bottom of a steep ravine.
The driver was the only person in the car when it crashed, the fire department said. Firefighters used ropes and a pulley system to rescue the driver from the ravine.
The driver was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, and the car was later towed from the ravine using a heavy-duty rotator tow truck, the fire department said. Ludlow police are investigating what caused the crash.
