Nearly a third of flights out of Boston Logan Airport were delayed Thursday due to thunderstorms and construction.

By 3:30 p.m., 30% of departing flights had been delayed, and 10% of the day's flights had been cancelled, according to a flight-tracking website .

Massport warned travelers of ongoing flight delays shortly before 9 a.m. on Thursday, citing weather and airfield construction. It advised passengers to check the status of their flight online at https://bit.ly/3EgFqID .

Massachusetts could get up to 3 inches of rain on Thursday amid widespread showers and a chance of thunderstorms, National Weather Service forecasters predicted.

Massport previously warned travelers that a 75-day runway closure that began at the beginning of September could cause delays. Other factors, such as poor weather conditions, could exacerbate the problem, the transit authority said.

The ongoing closure is the first of two 75-day closures that have been planned to allow for the installation of a "vital" new safety system meant to stop planes that have overshot the runway, Massport said. The second closure will begin sometime after July 1, 2026.
