Iconic Western Mass. pizzeria announces reopening after half-year closure

Frankie & Johnnie's Pizzeria in Springfield announced an imminent reopening on Friday — just six months after closing its doors for what it said would be the last time.

The local icon, which was located at 35 Island Pond Road, ceased operations on Aug. 31, 2025, after serving customers for 56 years. At the time, WWLP reported that Leon and Jill Giard, the husband and wife duo who owned the restaurant, had decided to retire and pursue other interests.

On Friday, the pizzeria's Facebook page posted that a "Springfield tradition is coming back to life."

"Same legendary roots. New energy," the post reads.

The post did not say who is behind the restaurant's reopening or when Frankie & Johnnie's is expected to be up and running again, but said that those who want to apply for a job at the pizzeria should send their resumes to "waltpizza@yahoo.com."

A request for comment sent to the email address on Sunday evening was not immediately returned, but the same email was listed in a 2022 Facebook post from Antonio's Pizza By The Slice in Belchertown.

The Scoop, an ice cream parlor located next to Frankie & Johnnie's, closed down in August along with the pizzeria, WWLP reported at the time. It is unclear if it will also reopen.
