‘This is a low’: North Shore fried chicken chain closes Greater Boston spot

Flip The Bird , the locally-owned North Shore fried chicken chain, has closed its closest location to Boston.

The company announced Monday that the Woburn store had closed.

"Running a small but growing business comes with extreme highs and lows. Unfortunately, this is a low," Flip The Bird wrote in a Facebook post . "We have come to the decision to close the Woburn location of Flip the Bird. If any of our fans are entrepreneurs like us you know this decision did not come lightly. We have done all we can think of to get this location to where it needed to be. Unfortunately, not everything always works out."

Two weeks ago, owners Victoria "Torie" Farnsworth and Anthony Marino informed staff at the Woburn location that the store would close on Aug. 30.

"We wanted to give them the courtesy of finding a new job while still having one with us," the Facebook post read. "All our team members have also been offered jobs at other locations of Flip The Bird and some of them are already in the process of transferring to Beverly and Danvers!"

The post also indicated that the last week at Flip The Bird Woburn "was supposed to be a way to give back to our regulars and thank them for their support. Unfortunately, circumstances beyond our control did not allow for us to do that."

"Thank you to the Woburn community for your support over the last few years," the post continued. "If you're in the area, please visit one of our other locations in Beverly, Danvers, Swampscott and, soon-to-open, North Andover! You never know, you just might see a friendly familiar face from the Woburn location!"

Farnsworth and Marino opened the first Flip The Bird in Beverly on April 1, 2019, according to the chain's website . The local chain has a second location in Beverly as well as spots in Salem and Danvers. The Woburn location opened in September 2023

"Flip The Bird is more than just a fried chicken sandwich joint," the website reads. "Quality is what drives us; it is at the core of our brand."

Flip The Bird quickly gained a local following for their Nashville-inspired chicken sandwiches that are made to order. The menu has only seven options, including The "O.G.," The Early Bird, Angry Bird and Buff Chick. Flip The Bird also offers several sandwich styles, buttermilk biscuits, sides and sweets.

"Our motto here is 'good vibes only,'" Flip The Bird's website reads. "Our mission is to provide every Flip The Bird customer with homemade comfort food by using top-quality ingredients, and delivering classic southern-style hospitality to create an atmosphere of good vibes."
