Mass. man gets prison sentence for raping hitchhiking 14-year-old girl at hotel
A Fall River man has been sentenced to prison for giving a hitchhiking 14-year-old girl multiple alcoholic drinks, then raping her at a Somerset hotel, the Bristol County District Attorney's Office announced Tuesday.
Trevon Hector, 38, previously pleaded guilty to three counts of rape and abuse of a child and one count of possession of child pornography in Bristol County Superior Court, the district attorney's office said in a press release. A judge sentenced him to five to seven years in prison on the charges.
In August 2023, a 14-year-old girl who was living in a group home in Fall River ran away and tried to hitchhike to see her mother in Brockton, the district attorney's office said. Hector pulled over to offer her a ride, told her he was 18 and drove her to the Riverview Inn & Suites in Somerset where he rented a room for the two of them for the night.
While at the hotel, Hector gave the teen five or so alcoholic drinks, the district attorney's office. She reported feeling intoxicated, not being able to move, not being able to see straight and repeatedly falling asleep.
While the teen was intoxicated, Hector had sex with her "numerous times," the district attorney's office said. The next morning, he left the room before she woke up.
The teen called a friend she had been arranging a ride with, and her friend advised her to call the police, the district attorney's office said. Officers soon spoke with the teen in the parking lot of the hotel, during which Hector exited the hotel and admitted to spending the night with her.
"Once at the police station, the defendant stated to the detective that, in the eyes of the law, he had done something wrong," the release reads.
The teen was taken to a local hospital and provided biological evidence for a rape kit, the district attorney's office said. A DNA analysis determined that Hector's DNA matched that collected as part of the biological evidence.
In the hotel room, detectives found condom wrappers, used condoms and a bottle of "male performance liquid," the district attorney's office said. After obtaining a search warrant, they searched Hector's phone and discovered three photos of the teen unconscious and topless on the hotel room bed.
"The defendant plied the victim with alcohol and then sexually assaulted her. I am pleased that the defendant pled guilty and accepted responsibility without the victim having to testify," Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn III said in the release.
