Mass. weather: Freezing temps then rain Sunday night
Freezing rain is expected to impact much of Massachusetts on Sunday night.
A winter advisory for the rain includes the north shore, Boston and western Rhode Island with freezing rain to start after 8 p.m. and continue until 4 a.m. Monday.
Ice accumulations in those regions could be up to a tenth of an inch, while in the Connecticut River Valley it could reach up to a quarter inch, according to the National Weather Service.
Combined with the snow from Friday night's storm, the freezing rain will create hazardous driving conditions and potential power disruptions, forecasters said.
Residents should plan for slippery roads and walkways, especially in areas north of the Massachusetts Turnpike where the highest ice accumulations are expected.
Temperatures on Sunday will hover around freezing with afternoon highs in the upper 20s to low 30s.
