The wait is officially over for McDonald's fans who have been eagerly anticipating the return of one of fast food's most iconic promotions.

After being absent from menus since 2024, McDonald's Monopoly is set to make its triumphant comeback to U.K. and Ireland locations this fall.

Originally introduced to the fast food chain in 1987, McDonald's partnership with Monopoly quickly gained a cult following where customers collect game pieces with chances to win prizes, cash and more. The promotional game quickly became a global phenomenon, running in several countries including the United States, Canada, Germany and France.

Starting September 10, McDonald's restaurants across the U.K. and Ireland will welcome the "long-awaited" return of the Monopoly game, licensed by Hasbro. The promotion marks another step in McDonald's ongoing effort to reignite customer excitement through nostalgic experiences. 

However, the game's journey hasn't been without controversy. McDonald's discontinued the Monopoly promotion in U.S. restaurants after 2014, following a major fraud scandal in the early 2000s that affected the campaign's reputation and operations.

Despite this setback, the game has continued to operate successfully in other countries. 

"Never fear, fans of Monopoly at McDonald's, the wait is almost over," said a spokesperson for McDonald's. "Get ready for even more fun as McDonald's announces the long-awaited return of the game, under license from Hasbro, a leading games, IP and toy company, to all UK & Ireland restaurants on Wednesday, September 10."

McDonald's Monopoly has been a popular promotion in the U.K. since 2005, offering customers a chance to play a game inspired by the classic board game. Participants collect game pieces from selected menu items to win a variety of prizes.

While the chain hasn't revealed the reward lineup for 2025 at the time of writing, past promotions offer clues about what may be up for grabs. Quick in-store wins typically include items such as fries, wraps, drinks and McFlurries at no extra cost.

The real excitement comes from the grand prizes. In previous years, these have reportedly   included £100,000 in cash, MINI Electric cars and holidays with Jet2 worth £2,000.
