About 481,000 Anker power banks have been recalled due to fire and burn hazards caused by overheating lithium-ion batteries, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced.

The recall affects five specific models manufactured by Anker Innovations Limited of China. The company has received 33 reports of fire and explosion incidents, resulting in four minor burn injuries and one case of substantial property damage.

The recalled power banks include models A1647, A1652, A1257, A1681 and A1689, which were sold at Best Buy, Target and other major retailers nationwide. The devices were also available online through Amazon.com, AliExpress.com, eBay.com, Walmart.com and TikTok from August 2023 through June 2025, priced between $30 and $50.

These portable charging devices can power smartphones, laptops and tablets with output ranging from 7.5W to 30W depending on the model. The "Anker" brand name is engraved on the front, while model numbers appear on the back or side of each unit.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled power banks and visit Anker's recall page at www.anker.com/rc2506 to verify their product's serial number. The company is offering full cash refunds or Anker gift cards to affected customers.

To receive a remedy, consumers must submit a photo of their power bank showing the model number, serial number, their name, the date and the word "recalled" written in permanent marker on the device. Anker will then provide disposal instructions.

The CPSC warns against throwing recalled lithium-ion batteries in regular trash or recycling bins due to increased fire risk. Instead, consumers should contact their municipal household hazardous waste collection center to ask about proper disposal options.
