Tailgate Picnic deli closes in South Hadley’s Village Commons after 37 years

SOUTH HADLEY — Tailgate Picnic deli in Village Commons has closed after 37 years.

Signs posted at the restaurant this week urged people to keep an eye out for a new tenant in the space.

Owner Dawn Morey couldn't be reached for comment this week. But she noted in a letter posted to the shop's window how difficult her decision was. She cited the challenges of today's economy.

The shop sold food, sandwiches, as well as beer and wine.

Jack and Alicia Magri founded the restaurant in 1989 . Morey said she has owned it since 2022.

Its last day was New Year's Eve.
