Teen riding moped killed in Tuesday morning crash in Belmont
An 18-year-old man was killed Tuesday morning when his moped collided with a car in Belmont, officials said.
At around 8:55 a.m. Tuesday, Belmont police saw a moped driving erratically on the wrong side of Trapelo Road. Police tried to stop the vehicle, but the operator, an 18-year-old man from Watertown, did not stop, said Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan and Interim Belmont Police Chief Mark Hurley in a joint statement.
The man continued down Belmont Street and turned left onto Stults Road before colliding with a Honda CRV on Fairview Avenue. The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the statement.
The driver of the Honda was also taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
