Some parts of roads across Massachusetts remain slick after more than 20 inches was dumped over some communities on Sunday, with road restrictions remaining in place and more flakes in the forecast on Monday.

The speed limit on Interstate 90 was still reduced to 40 mph on Monday morning in both directions from the New York border to mile marker 110 in Southborough, according to MassDOT spokesperson Jacquelyn Goddard .

The ban was lifted just before 11 a.m. for special permit vehicles, RVs, box trucks, tractor-trailers, tandems or vehicles with trailers on state-maintained roads, Goddard announced.

On Sunday, roads across the state were blanketed . Nearly 2,600 MassDOT pieces of equipment were deployed to clear the roads as of 10:30 a.m. Monday, according to Goddard.

And while the snow slowed by 10 a.m. for the majority of the state — with more than 20 inches falling in some parts — forecasters expect between another 1-5 inches to fall statewide until 8 p.m. Monday.

Residents are asked by MassDOT to continue to avoid non-essential travel on Monday and if they must drive, to go slow, use caution and give plows space.
