Unseasonably cool Thursday expected for Mass. before weekend warm-up
A cold and blustery Wednesday evening is ahead for Massachusetts, with temperatures likely to flirt with freezing and wind chill making it feel even cooler.
The cold conditions will continue on Thursday, with temperatures in the low to mid 50s and gusting winds of 25 to 30 mph.
"The cooler air over the relatively warmer ocean will likely result in some ocean-effect showers over Cape Cod, The Islands, and perhaps sections of The South Shore beginning tomorrow afternoon," National Weather Service forecasters wrote.
The showers are expected to continue overnight Thursday, but with little moisture in the air, forecasters don’t expect any significant accumulations.
The dry weather for the rest of the state is set to continue on Friday and through the weekend, with temperatures moderating from earlier in the week. Highs should reach the upper 50s or low 60s on Friday, the mid 60s on Saturday and between 65 and 70 on Sunday.
A cold front is expected to bring showers early next week, likely late Sunday to Monday. There is some uncertainty beyond that, with some weather models showing a stronger, secondary system of low-pressure developing near or south of the region. If that were to develop, more rain would be possible Tuesday into Wednesday, forecasters said.
Temperatures are likely to run a bit above normal, with highs peaking in the low to mid 60s.
