Danny Trejo Sends Searing Message to Kim Kardashian Over LA Wildfire Response

Danny Trejo has no time for those using the  California wildfires to promote their own agendas, no matter how noble they may be. 

In a new interview with  TMZ , the Machete star called out his fellow celebs—with a nod to Kim Kardashianin particular—voicing frustration with the lack of focus on the Los Angeles residents who have lost everything.

While multiple fires continue to burn in the Los Angeles area, with the Palisades Fire—the largest of them all—only 19 percent contained as of the morning of Jan. 15, according to Cal Fire , the reality star began campaigning for higher pay rates for incarcerated firefighters battling the blazes. 

"They get paid almost nothing, risk their lives, some have died, to prove to the community that they have changed and are now first responders. I see them as heroes," she explained. 

According to Kardashian, the imprisoned firefighters have been paid a dollar an hour for the last 40 years, and a reported agreement to increase that to five dollars an hour was reportedly "shot down last minute."

But Trejo, who worked as a firefighter himself when he was serving time in the '60s, says now is not the time to get "political." 

"Kim, worry about the people that lost everything," he said in a video posted by the publication. "You still got everything. Worry about all of the people that are walking around with absolutely nothing but the clothes on their back, all right?"

He felt confident, as "a convict," that "all the people in jail, they're fine." After the "damn fire" is extinguished, he said, "then we'll figure out what to do."

According to TMZ, Trejo also noted that any inmates battling the fires volunteered to be firefighters, and they'll get their sentences reduced in exchange for the dangerous work—which is what they care about the most. Per Trejo, any money they earn typically goes to their restitution, rather than directly to them.
