Sheboygan planning & development director resigns ‘effective immediately’ after 14 months

SHEBOYGAN – The director of planning and development for the city of Sheboygan resigned at the end of October.  

Diane McGinnis-Casey, who held the role for about 14 months, submitted her resignation to the human resources department Oct. 31, according to an email shared with the Sheboygan Press.  

"HR, Please accept my resignation effective immediately," the email read.  

The next day, City Administrator Casey Bradley emailed Mayor Ryan Sorenson, Common Council members, department leaders and city staff with the news.  

"We will work with Human Resources to update the job description and get the position posted soon," Bradley said in the email. "In the meantime, we will work with staff to ensure we mitigate issues and provide any support they may need as we work through this transition. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me."

To manage projects and responsibilities of the vacant director role, Bradley said he and his assistant, Marie Foss, are overseeing "daily operations," and departments are collaborating to cover the workload.

"We are committed to moving forward efficiently and are hopeful we will be able to post the open position soon," Bradley told the Sheboygan Press in an email Nov. 12. "We thank our community and partners for their understanding and patience during this transition."

McGinnis-Casey assumed the role Aug. 28, 2023, following Chad Pelishek's resignation that May. He held the role for 13 years. McGinnis-Casey was formerly La Crosse's community development administrator and Vernon County's resources and community development director.
