Karmelo Anthony , the Texas teenager accused of fatally stabbing high school track athlete Austin Metcalf during a meet last year, has been found guilty of murder.
A jury delivered the verdict on Tuesday, June 9, according to a report from CNN , and they rejected Anthony's claim that he stabbed Metcalf, 17, in self-defense during their confrontation. Anthony, 19, did not testify during the trial.
The incident occurred in the bleachers at a track and field event in Frisco, Texas, in April 2025, and the case drew national attention .

Prosecutors said the two began to argue after Anthony refused to leave a tent designated for Metcalf's team during a rain delay. Multiple student witnesses described a heated exchange between the two teenagers before Metcalf was stabbed.
Anthony's legal team argued that he "had an absolute right to defend himself."
"Austin Metcalf had no legal right to use force to eject Karmelo Anthony from that tent," defense lawyer Mike Howard said during closing arguments, per the Daily Mail . "He had the right to ask him to leave, but he didn't have any legal right to use force."
Anthony now faces a potential sentence of up to life in prison .
