MHPE

The Master and Diploma in Health Professions Education programs have been designed and are delivered by the Faculty of College of Medicine, Gulf Medical University.  It comprises of balance of synchronous and asynchronous on-line activities, interspersed with face-to-face periods at Gulf Medical University (GMU) in Ajman UAE, where students and faculty can meet with the wider health professions education community. Gulf Medical University is well developed and vibrant community of health professionals educators and is serving as a regional networking center of AMEE (Association for Medical Educators in Europe).

The aim of this program is to develop leaders in health professions education who can transform education and support the development of health professionals for the 21st century. The program offers ease of study with a flexible learning schedule which is best suited to working professionals. A dedicated Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) is central to the experience through which students can access digital content, virtual classrooms, videos, discussions and much more to support all aspects of learning.

Students who successfully complete the program including a research project in year 2 relevant to their work environment, will be awarded a degree in Master in Health Professions Education (MHPE).

Students who choose to opt-out from the program after year one will be awarded a  Postgraduate Diploma in Health Professions Education (PGDHPE).

The best thing about the program is the wide range of experience, background and culture of our students, which means that we are well served to provide an excellent, varied and well-informed education to those who are destined to be educational leaders of the next decade.

Governance

GMU has full ownership of the MHPE/DHPE programs with its outstanding faculty (full-time and adjunct) teaching on the programs.

GMU is a known Center of Excellence in medical education in the region offering several faculty development training programs nationally, regionally, and internationally. Its faculty is active in medical education research having the highest number of publications in medical education in UAE. GMU has about 62% of the total publication from top universities in UAE from 2017 to 2022 as per the Scopus-generated reports. Link to Scopus-generated report

The study plan of the MHPE program includes 10 courses over two years, as listed below:

MHPE
  • Applicants shall meet all admission criteria for entry into the higher education programs offered by the University, as laid down in the Standards (2019) published by the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA), Ministry of Education – Higher Education Affairs, UAE
  • Applicants for the Diploma / Master in Health Professions Education shall have a recognized Baccalaureate degree or equivalent health professional, at least two years post-qualification and involved in education, its planning, administration, support, delivery or regulation earned in a discipline appropriate for the prospective graduate degree with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or its established equivalent.
  • The Applicant must have proficiency in spoken and written English. The applicant can fulfil the English proficiency requirement via the TOEFL, IELTS, or UA CESL Endorsement Exam, minimum requirements are listed below. TOEFL and IELTS test scores must be dated within two years of the year of enrolment.
    • TOEFL : Score of 79 on the iBT or 550 PBT (web-based) test or higher.
    • IELTS : Overall score of 6 is required, with a score of no less than 5 on any individual band or module.

  • Attested copy of the baccalaureate degree and official transcripts of credit/s earned from an accredited institution of higher education previously attended
  • Equivalency Certificate of the baccalaureate degree from the Ministry of Education, UAE
  • Copy valid English Proficiency Score sheet (EmSAT/IELTS/TOEFL)
  • Passport copy and Emirates ID Card (For UAE Nationals Family Book and Ethbara)
  • Passport-size Photographs x 5
  • Updated CV
  • Statement of Purpose
  • Experience letter (involved in education) preferable

Graduation requirements with MHPE

  • Completion of 36 credits
  • Minimum CGPA of 3 out of 4
  • Minimum pass mark of 80% (Grade B) in all modules
  • Securing a minimum attendance of 80%
  • Submitting and defending a thesis to the satisfaction of the thesis judging committee with a minimum pass mark of 80%

Graduation requirements with DHPE

  • Completion of 24 credits
  • Minimum CGPA of 2 out of 4
  • Minimum pass mark of 80% (Grade B) in all modules
  • Securing a minimum attendance of 80%
