Gender Inclusive Language

Gender Inclusive Language

Policies should be written using gender -inclusive language. Policies are often clearest when written without pronouns ; when pronouns are needed, please ensure the pronoun's antecedent is clear and unambiguous, and use they/them/theirs  in place of he/him/his  or she/her/hers  when referring to indefinite singular nouns; similarly, use themselves  in place of himself  or herself .  When doing so, use plural rather than singular verb forms; thus, for example, "he is" becomes "they are", or "he submits the form" becomes "they submit the form."
