HANOI– Vietnam is on track to welcome more than one million Russian visitors by the end of the year, marking the strongest performance ever recorded for the market and representing a 50% increase compared with the pre-pandemic record set in 2019, according to the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR).
Maya Lomidze, Executive Director of ATOR, said the surge is being driven by a combination of limited international travel options for Russians and Vietnam’s growing appeal as an accessible, affordable beach destination. With fewer available destinations than before, Vietnam has gained a competitive advantage over many European and Caribbean resorts.
Russian tour operators have also transformed their Vietnam offerings. Previously, charter programs primarily focused on winter holidays to Phu Quoc Island, but airlines and tour companies now operate seasonal programs to Nha Trangand Da Nangduring the summer, effectively turning Vietnam into a year-round destination for Russian travelers.
Approximately one-third of Russian visitors continue to reach Vietnam via connecting flights. Combined with Vietnam’s favorable visa policie s for Russian citizens, these connections help keep travel costs competitive despite changes in international aviation routes. Industry experts believe that, barring unforeseen geopolitical or economic disruptions, Vietnam will establish a new all-time record for Russian arrivals this year.
The trend reflects Vietnam’s rapid rise in the Russian outbound tourism market. After recording nearly 690,000 Russian arrivals in 2025, almost triple the previous year and surpassing the former 2019 record, industry analysts expect continued expansion as charter capacity grows and demand remains strong.
Where Else Are Russians Traveling?
While Vietnam is among the fastest-growing destinations, it remains part of a broader shift in Russian outbound tourism. Based on ATOR data and industry reports, the leading international destinations currently include:

Why Vietnam Is Winning More Russian Tourists
Several factors explain Vietnam’s rapid growth:
- Expanded charter flight programs from multiple Russian cities.
- Year-round tourism with multiple coastal destinations.
- Competitive prices compared with many alternative beach destinations.
- Convenient visa arrangements and relatively easy entry procedures.
- Growing investment by Russian tour operators in dedicated Vietnam packages.
As international travel patterns continue to evolve, Vietnam is emerging as one of Russia’s most successful long-haul leisure destinations, with tourism officials and operators expecting continued growth beyond this year’s anticipated record.
